i mean, we are so happy. >> it made you feel like such a part of a community. >> when the smoke came out at first we thought it was black and then realized it was white. it was amazing. we said i can't believe we are here and they picked a pope and we are in rome. it is amazing and i am so happy i can be a part of that. >> pope francis will be installed as pope on tuesday are march 19th. he was the son of an italian railway worker and one of five children. as a teenager he suffered a health crisis having one of his lungs removed after a serious infection. he would become a chemist by trade and turned jesuit priest. in his ministry he is known for his work with argentina's poor. cardinal bergoglio lead a simple life in argentina where he lived in a small apartment and cooking his own meals and taking the bus. known as father jorge he has written books on spirituality and meditation shee. very conservative. she outspoken about abortion,

>> sand yaw, thank you. sandhya, thank you. tonight we learn of a serious violation that took place during a field trip for two san jose high schools. they were traveling with a registered sex offender. alan wang is live at andrew hill high school in san jose with the latest. alan? >> ama, this happened on february 13th during a field trip to deanza college. students from here at andrew hill high school and silver creek high school were traveling on buses to the college, and we are told the sex offender was on the bus with the andrew hill students. we were alerted to this situation by a viewer this evening and still waiting to hear back from school officials. we managed to get a kipe copy -- a copy of this letter that went out today. it says a registered sex offender who was not authorized to be on the bus knew a district volunteer on the trip and road the bus back to andrew hill high school, but he did not have contact of any kind with any student that day. registered sex offenders are

not allowed to be on school property or come in contact with underage students, and now the san jose police department has confirmed to us that it is investigating the incident. the eastside iewnen why high school district -- union high school district says no inappropriate conduct took place during that trip. however, a serious violation of school policy has taken place. alan wang reporting live in san jose, abc7 news. >> alan, thanks etch have. a preschool teacher accused of trying to feed sleeping pills to toddlers is out of jail tonight. she has been charged with felony child endangerment. she is accused of lacing children's drinking cups with an adult sleeping aid. tonight parents met at the kiddie academy child care facility in morgan hill to discuss what happened. more than 30 parents contacted them sharing concerns or their anger. investigators are trying to determine if it was an on going issue or an isolated incident. she is expected back in court

in two weeks. palo alto police arrested a man suspected of stealing 10,000 prescription pills. he was employed at the palo alto medical foundation. investigators say he broke into the pharmacy over night on march 2nd and then stole objection echo done, methadone and morphine. they recovered the drugs along with meth and drug paraphenalla in his home and vehicle. no injury after a small plane crash in san jose. it happened off east capital expressway. the f.a.a. confirmed that the gear on a piper pa-34 collapsed on landing just before 7:00 tonight. no one was hurt. the plane had only minor damage. also new at 11:00, one of three men behind a school bus kidding will stay in jail for three more years. state authorities denied parole james showenfeld. they kidnapped 26 children on a school bus in 1976. they buried the kids and the

school bus driver alive in a livermore rock quarry and tried to collect the $5 million ransom. the kids and their driver escaped unhurt. the other two kidnappers were denied parole at their most recent hearings. this is the day the music stopped. the san francisco symphony is on strike forcing the cancellation of a concert tomorrow. more than 100 musicians walked off the job today. despite six-figure salaries they say they are not able to earn a living wage. orchestra management has a proposal on the table and it does not include a raise in the first year. so negotiations continue tomorrow. >> up next, a horrifying skydiving accident. the story of how he was able to survive the crash-landing. >> and the people who knew about this earthquake in southern california 35 seconds before it happened. >> and i am not sure if you are sob -- and not sure if you are sober enough to drive?

from los angeles to san diego. they say the warning system gave 35 seconds notice, and while it may not sound like much, it is enough notice for trains to stop and utilities to shut off systems and for people to take cover. bet you would like 35 seconds notice before an earthquake. it does not predict earthquakes, but it detects the first pulses of a quake's energy and gives you time to react. travelers at one of l.a.x.'s biggest terminals had to avoid contaminated drinking water. a construction crew crossed the drinkable water line with the recycled air conditioning line at terminal six. it forced the crews to shutdown the restaurants and the drinking fountains. no word when it will be fixed. and new at 11:00, a new device for the iphone lets you know when it is safe to drive home. it has a breath anna lieser that attaches -- analyzer that attaches. it tells you if you are over the alcohol limit.

the creator says it is not just for heavy drinkers, but it is for those who have a couple of beers and maybe glasses of wine and should be responsible drivers. the breath owe meter is in development. a big announcement from google in an attempt to stream line services. they are shutting down the popular google reader feature. google reader allowed users to pull con at the present time feeds from a -- content feeds from a variety of websites. it was launched in 2005 and has a loyal following. according to google, usage has declined. google reader will shutdown on july 1st. new at 11:00, mcdonalds is trying to get a bit healthier. the fast-food giant will have their tiers egg white breakfast sandwich. it comes on a whole grain english muffin and has white chedder and canadian bacon. it is a move to say that they contribute to obesity rates that are rising. 24r* is a mu mcwrap sandwich and a pomogr ate smoothy.

and now sandhya patel has a look at what is to come. >> it will be another gorgeous day tomorrow, but with some subtle changes. the changes will include a little bit of a cool down. all right, let me show you the satellite and radar here. this is live doppler 7hd. you will see from the satellite perspective that we do have the fog along the coastline. the radar could be tracking rain as early as next wednesday. here is a look at the golden gate bridge. you can see it is pretty murky out there due to the fog. san francisco 52 degrees. san carlos 57. san jose is holding on to some of the warmth from earlier today. it is still 60 degrees. half moon bay, 48 right now with a quarter mile visibility. this is the view from the south beach camera. spectacular shot of the bay bridge. visibility is good from this perspective. the temperatures right now, napa 56. it is 58 in livermore. here is a look at what is coming. dense, coastal fog overnight. filtered sunshine tomorrow with a gradual cooling trend

going into the weekend. so we will get you used to the idea of no more 80s. here is a look at the pacific satellite picture. high pressure will still control the weather. that will be right through the weekend. but the change will come in the form of some more high clouds. you can see them here. we will certainly see the coastal fog around like we did this morning. on the subject of fog, it will be dense in pockets and already down to a quarter mile in half moon bay. watch out for the fog on the coast. temperatures mid40s to the low 50s. you might want to give yourself some more time to get yourself off to school. the fog will pull away, but sit in patches along the coast. 50s there, and 70s in our inland areas. here is how it is going to look in your neighborhood. south bay 72 degrees in san jose. 75 los gatos. 73 on the peninsula. you are looking at 71 in san mateo. low 70s for palo alto, menlo park and half moon bay, 59 degrees. you will see the fog around. this is almost something you

expect in the summer for daily city. but -- daley sti. but it will be foggy into the afternoon. 65 downtown san francisco. in the north bay, 59 at stinson beach, but getting you into the 70s for santa rosa. clear lake 75, 71 san rafael. head out toward the east bay, a nice looking day. mix of sun and high clouds. hercules, union city, 70. 69 in oakland. inland communities 75 in livermore. still warmer than average in fairfield. 76 degrees. as we look at the st. patrick's day parade forecast for this upcoming saturday, it starts at second and market and goes all the way to city hall. we are looking at good looking weather. 11:00 a.m., clouds and cool, upper 50s. 1:00 p.m., mostly sunny, and it will be breezy by 3:00. dry, mid60s. sunny skies by 5:00 p.m. cooling down to the upper 50s. i would just take a jacket or sweater, light one with you. if you are going for the celebration, look at the accu-weather seven-day forecast, cooler for the weekend and st. patrick's day is included.
